gorno Ceramic Studio

Gorno Ceramic Studio is a modern space that combines a workshop, an exhibition hall, and a venue for educational and cultural events.

For more than two centuries, Kosiv has been known as a prominent center of ceramic craftsmanship. Kosiv ceramics is recognized as an element of the world’s Intangible Cultural Heritage. Gorno Ceramic Studio works to ensure that this heritage is not only preserved, but continuously developed. Modernizing tradition is the core mission of the studio.

Here, artisans create contemporary functional pottery and experiment with new techniques and materials. Students of the Ceramic Department of the Kosiv Institute undertake their practical training in the workshop. Visitors can attend lectures and explore the full process of ceramic production. The gallery features a permanent exhibition of creative works. In cooperation with the public space “Vilni,” the studio also hosts cultural events and charity festivals.

The name “gorno” means “kiln,” because this is the essence of ceramics: fire brings clay to life, transforms it, and gives it strength. That is why one of the studio’s key directions is wood-firing. Each wood-kiln firing is an open event that anyone can participate in — an archaic craft that remains relevant today. After all, ceramics is not just a souvenir, functional pottery, or an artwork; above all, it is an emotion.

gorno is an attempt to show what a modern ceramic workshop can be. It is at once a creative business and a space that shapes the environment around it, telling the story of the past through ceramics and creating the present.
